Privacy Policy
There You Were uses a device-bound anonymous account and does not require your name, email address, phone number, password, social account, or contacts. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app tracking.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Dreaming Above Labs ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the There You Were iOS application and its related support pages. The initial service is intended for adults in the United States.
2. Information we process
Anonymous account and consent
When you choose to post, respond, report, block, or use the Inbox, Supabase creates a random account identifier. We store your adult confirmation, the date you accepted the rules, and the policy versions accepted. The account is tied to the app session stored on your device and is not publicly displayed.
Posts and place information
A post contains the title, story, category, public venue or general area, city, state or region, encounter date, approximate time, timestamps, and status. When you select an Apple Maps result, we store the selected public place coordinates and Apple place identifier to support nearby discovery. Public app screens show the venue or general area—not the stored coordinates or anonymous account identifier.
Device location
Location access is optional and requested only when you tap a location-based feature such as Near Me or Use My Location. Your location is used to find places or posts near you. We do not request background location access or continuously track your movements. A nearby-search request may transmit coordinates to Apple and Supabase to return results; it is not saved as a location history or profile location.
Private communications
We store initial responses and messages in accepted conversations. These communications are available only to the two participating accounts, authorized service providers needed to operate the service, and moderation personnel when necessary for safety, support, enforcement, or legal compliance.
Safety and service data
We store reports, report reasons and details, blocks, moderation status, account-ban status, and related timestamps. If notifications are enabled, we store an APNs device token, platform, environment, and app version so replies and messages can be delivered.
Analytics
If anonymous usage analytics remain enabled in Profile, Firebase Analytics receives parameter-free feature events such as opening Discover, starting or completing a post, or submitting a report. We do not place account identifiers, searches, stories, messages, venue names, or coordinates in analytics events. Identifier for Vendor collection is disabled. You can turn analytics off at any time in Profile.
3. How we use information
- Provide public discovery, search, posts, private responses, and accepted conversations.
- Operate optional nearby search and notifications.
- Prevent spam, enforce rate limits, investigate reports, block abusive interactions, and protect users.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and understand aggregate feature usage.
- Respond to support, legal, safety, and security requests.
4. Service providers
- Supabase provides authentication, database storage, server functions, and access controls.
- Apple provides MapKit place and map services, Core Location, and APNs notifications.
- Google Firebase provides optional analytics when enabled.
- Cloudflare Turnstile provides a privacy-focused human-verification check when an anonymous account is created.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We do not permit them to use app content for our advertising, and There You Were does not include third-party advertising.
5. Public and private information
Active posts are public to app users and may be visible without an account. Replies, accepted conversations, blocks, reports, stored coordinates, device tokens, and account identifiers are not public. Do not place information in a post that you do not want other people to see.
6. Retention
Posts remain publicly active for up to 30 days unless closed, deleted, expired, or removed sooner. Content and account records remain until you delete them, delete your account, or our retention process removes an anonymous account after 365 days without recorded activity. Some limited safety, security, backup, or legal records may be retained longer when reasonably necessary or legally required.
7. Your choices
- Decline location or notification permission without losing basic browsing.
- Turn anonymous analytics off in Profile.
- Close or delete your own posts.
- Block accounts and submit reports.
- Delete your account and associated content from Profile.
Because accounts are anonymous and device-bound, we may be unable to identify or recover an account after you sign out, delete the app, lose the device session, or move to another device.
8. Security
We use encrypted network connections, database row-level access controls, server-side rate limits, restricted moderation access, and deletion cascades. No system can guarantee absolute security. Please report suspected security or privacy issues promptly.
9. Children
There You Were is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly offer the service to or collect information from anyone under 18. Contact us if you believe a minor is using the service.
10. United States privacy rights
Depending on your state, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about our handling of personal data. There You Were does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising. Contact us to make a request. We may need information sufficient to locate and verify the relevant anonymous account; in some cases the in-app deletion control is the only reliable way to identify it.
11. Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will update the effective date and, for material changes requiring renewed agreement, ask you to accept the new policy version in the app.
