Authentication Information
To create an account, you can sign in using:
- Sign in with Apple: We receive your Apple ID and associated account information
- Sign in with Google: We receive your Google account information
- Sign in with Facebook: We receive your Facebook account information
This information is used solely for authentication and account creation purposes.
User Profile Information
- Display Name: The name you choose to display in the app
- Username/Handle: A unique username for your account
- Avatar Image: Optional profile picture (default generated if none provided)
- Bio: Optional short bio (single line)
Location Data
To provide our core location-based Hang functionality, we collect:
- GPS Coordinates: Latitude and longitude when you create a Hang at your current location
- Place Labels: Optional place names you provide (e.g., "Riverside Park")
- Location for Discovery: Your approximate location to show nearby Hangs on the map
Important: We never create Hangs at precise home addresses for public visibility. Hangs are only visible to your friends or private invitees.
Hang Data
When you create a Hang, we collect:
- Location: GPS coordinates and optional place label
- Description: Short text description (up to 100 characters)
- Visibility Settings: Whether the Hang is visible to all friends or specific private invitees
- Estimated Duration: Optional informational duration (30, 60, 90 minutes)
- Timestamps: Creation time and visibility end time (30 minutes from creation)
Hang Attendance Data
When you interact with a Hang, we collect:
- Presence State: "On my way", "I am here", or "Left" status
- Timestamp: When you update your presence state
Friend Relationships
- Friend Requests: Sent and received friend request data
- Friend Status: Accepted, pending, or blocked relationships
Usage Data
We collect analytics data to improve our App, including:
- App Usage: App opens, session duration, screen views, and feature usage patterns
- Hang Metrics: Number of Hangs created, views, and attendance rates
- Performance Data: App crashes, errors, and performance metrics
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, app version, and language settings
This data is collected through Firebase Analytics and is not linked to your personal identity.
Safety and Moderation Data
- Blocked Users: List of users you have blocked
- Reports: Reports you submit about users or Hangs, including reason and timestamp
How We Use Your Information

- Provide Core Functionality: To create and display Hangs, manage friend relationships, and enable presence states
- Location Services: To show your location when creating Hangs and to display nearby Hangs on the map
- Notifications: To send you push notifications when friends start Hangs or when your Hang is about to expire (with your permission)
- Improve the App: To analyze usage patterns, identify bugs, and enhance app performance and features
- Safety and Moderation: To enforce blocking, handle reports, and maintain a safe environment
- Customer Support: To respond to your inquiries and provide technical support
- Analytics: To understand how users interact with the App and improve user experience

Your Hang data is only visible to:
- Your friends (if visibility is set to "Friends")
- Specifically invited users (if visibility is set to "Private")
- Users who have marked "On my way" or "I am here" on your Hang
Data Storage and Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted to our servers and third-party services is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
- Secure Authentication: Authentication is handled through secure OAuth flows with Apple, Google, and Facebook
- Firebase Security: Data stored in Firebase is protected by Firebase's security rules and infrastructure
- Location Privacy: We never create Hangs at precise home addresses, and location data is only shared with your friends or private invitees
While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain different types of data for varying periods:
- Active Hangs: Hang data is retained while the Hang is active (until it expires or is ended)
- Expired Hangs: Hang data is automatically removed after the visibility window expires (30 minutes from creation)
- User Profiles: Profile data is retained until you delete your account
- Friend Relationships: Friend data is retained until you remove the friendship or delete your account
- Analytics Data: Firebase Analytics data is retained according to Firebase's default retention periods (typically 2-14 months)
- Safety Data: Block lists and reports are retained for safety and moderation purposes
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including:
- Access and Correction: You can access and modify your profile data directly through the app's settings
- Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data through the app settings
- End Hangs Early: As a host, you can end your Hang at any time, which immediately removes it from discovery
- Opt-Out of Analytics: You can disable analytics tracking through iOS Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvements
- Notification Control: You can manage push notification permissions through iOS Settings
- Location Control: You can disable location services for the app through iOS Settings > Privacy > Location Services
- Block Users: You can block users at any time, which prevents them from seeing your Hangs and sending friend requests

Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
International Data Transfers
When you use our App, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence:
- Firebase: Data may be processed on Google servers worldwide
- Authentication Providers: Data is processed according to Apple, Google, and Facebook's data processing locations
These countries may have different data protection laws than your country. By using our App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries. We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place through our third-party service providers' compliance with applicable data protection regulations.
